Summertime Refresh With Niche Modern Home

The hot and humid days of Summer have finally arrived with so many of us looking for cooler activities, fun places to travel and for those of us that are design obsessed...new and stylish ways to give our homes a quick refresh. A seasonal update truly does not have to break the bank. In the case of a spring or summertime refresh, it can be as subtle or simple as bringing the outdoors in by adding some fresh florals to your home, (or faux florals if you're like me and don't have not even an ounce of a green thumb!!) changing your bedding with lighter and brighter linens, switching up your toss pillow line-up to softer pastels, or even updating some of your decorative accents to seasonal summertime decor.

Last year for the Spring and Summer seasons I made subtle yet impactful changes to both my master bedroom and my blue living room. It was all about adding pops of blush pink throughout my home with many of the added accents being existing items I already owned, as well as home decor I found at deep discount stores like Home Goods and TJMaxx. In addition, I also added some beautiful sale items to my home I found at ZGallerie. To see last year's Spring and Summer refresh, click here and here.

This year, it was all about staying true to my love for shopping local and sprucing up my home with amazing and beautiful finds from one of my tried and true, favorite Northshore boutiques, Niche Modern Home. For my 2019 seasonal refresh...I went with summer whites, gold, mixed metallics, blush, grey and of course I stayed true to my favorite beautiful hues of blue.

Those of you who know me well and have been following along for quite some time, know that I'm a loyal customer of Niche and have been shopping with them for about 5 years now. And, with no plans on stopping!! While I do shop and support so many stores both local and mass retailers, one of the main reasons Niche Modern Home continues to be my go to is because their products align so very much with my design aesthetic, pretty much to the tee!! Owners, Jeff McNeely & Steve Macloud always manage to purchase from market the most stunningly, beautiful finds. In addition, they and their design team and staff have such a talent for incorporating a wonderful mixture of rustic vintage pieces that pair so well with modern elegant glam accents. For me, this design combination is a match made in heaven and it's what consistently keeps me coming back to their store.

For my summertime refresh, it all began with beautiful pillows. My original idea was to incorporate rich hues of green into my blue living room for the Summer. But that all changed when I spotted the gorgeous blush, grey and ivory iKat pillows from Niche, which are a custom order. I wasn't really aiming to do blush again this year, but the print and pattern of these pillows completely did it for me.

Many of you know that I'm all about mixing prints and patterns be it in a bold or subtle way. From the moment I saw these beauties, I knew they'd pair so well alongside of my deep blue sofa and existing blue pillows. And, for added interest and contrast, I also chose the gold geometric pillow because no matter what season it is, gold is an all time favorite and forever constant in my home, #HousePiazza.

Outside of changing up or updating your toss pillows, coffee table styling is one of the most popular and easy ways to refresh your home. It can be as simple as changing your coffee table book display, putting out a new vase or a new tray, displaying fresh or faux florals (as I mentioned above), or simply adding or changing up your candles.

In general, I love to style my coffee table in a very modern luxe way filled with decorative goodies that are both stylish, yet practical. Design books always, always adorn my coffee table all year round and are an absolute must have in my home. Because I have so very many, I tend to swap out my coffee table books quite often to either go along with whatever season we're in, or whatever design mood I'm in. In addition, I like to make sure the cover of the books that are on display are not only inspiring and beautiful, but also compliments the colors of my space.

I also love adding a gorgeous vase or two atop of my coffee table. I'm a huge fan of allowing the beauty of the vase itself to be the focal point, as I'm a huge lover and collector of gorgeous pottery. So I don't always add florals to my vases. But I fell in love with the simplicity of the wheat stems from Niche. Everything about them screamed summertime to me, so they were a must have for my coffee table styling this year. In addition to the stems, other decor that came from Niche Modern Home found on my coffee table are as follows...

  • Blue & White Ceramic Vase

  • Blue, White & Gold Lidded Cannister

  • La Petite Belle Candles

  • Summertime Filler

  • Gold & White Marble Coasters

  • Silverleaf Antique Tray

  • House Beautiful Style Secrets: What Every Room Needs by Sophie Donelson

  • The Art of Elegance: Classic Interiors by Marshall Watson

Behind my sofa is my rustic chest, which I purchased from Niche Modern Home a few years ago. I love this chest because of it's unique and quirky shape and very often I change out the styling atop of the chest. For my summertime refresh, I kept my previous look but spruced it up for the current season by adding in a beautiful white coral accent from JCPenney and also added one of my favorite tall gold and white vases also purchased from Niche some time ago.

Like my rustic chest, my white Jonathan Club Chair as well as my side tables in my blue living room are all Niche purchases from a long time ago. Yes, I really rocks with them!! This particular corner is one of my favorite small spaces to sit down and either watch TV, read a good book or flip through the latest design and home decor magazines. And, while doing so...I love to make sure the styling of this little corner is not only a beautiful vignette, but also inviting and inspirational.

My goal here was simply to let my white faux florals be the centerpiece giving off that bright white summer vibe and style everything else around it...And, of course have all additional accents compliment the florals as well. Most of you already know that when it comes to blue, my favorite color palette is mixing in white and gold elements alongside of hues of blue. Indeed, those three colors are timeless and classic and they all pair so very well together.

All of the styling done to this corner came about from existing pieces I already owned, with the exception to the deep blue, faux fur lumbar pillow from Niche and the gold scented candle I added from West Elm. Again, a quick refresh or update to your home does not have to be about breaking the bank. I've said this many times before in previous blogposts and I'll continue to always promote that shopping your home is one of the best ways to save on your budget. Sure, consuming is in our nature, as it's what we do as living and breathing people. Buy, shop, consume and repeat. But as the seasons come and go...make sure you're purchasing items for your home that you genuinely love. Most importantly, make sure those items can also be repurposed in various rooms all throughout your home season after season, which will ultimately save you money in the process.

You can have just as much fun updating and refreshing your home by changing up your decor with existing pieces you already have. And, for my married folks...both your spouse and your bank account will love you for it, lol.

I hope you all enjoyed my summertime refresh with the subtle, yet stylish and impactful changes I made to my home. Of course, I hope the photos provided you all with lots of inspiration and ideas for ways you can style your own homes this season and beyond.

For all of my locals interested in shopping with Niche Modern Home, they're located on the Northshore @1901 U.S. 190 Suite 3, Mandeville, LA 70448. Oh and before I get out of here, just to give you guys an idea of my schedule...Y'all know I always try to keep you all in the loop of the latest and greatest from me. Next month, I switch gears and head back to work in my film career working on the 1st Season of Filthy Rich, which is a TV Series starring Kim Cattrall that will be coming to everyone's television screen soon and airing on Fox Network. As many of you all know, when I'm contracted on a show I have very little time to blog and sadly not enough time to produce design content as I'd like to. But rest assured, I'll continue to maintain my online presence and share design inspiration with you all on my social media channels. So make sure ya'll are following along on both Facebook and Instagram for your daily and weekly dose.

And, until next time...

I love you 3000!
